seek to find why/.

Its easy for us to quantify what we do - whether color grading a photo, exposing images in the camera, or designing an album they all involve a level of technical understanding & process -- however, it is much harder (and in turn, much more rewarding) to qualify and define why we do something.

why gives purpose and why gives meaning. It has been the single most important aspect of what we are constantly striving towards in our business: to find why in everything.

Over the past couple of months I have been reading and re-reading Start With Why by Simon Sinek. It has literally has been by my side at all times: I have read passages out of it on airplanes, while kayaking around lake union and on a bus in Jamestown virginia heading to the governors mansion. It has been my constant companion while I have worked on projects and given me inspiration on how to find the uniqueness in my work and the purpose behind it.

After reading this book I have begun to realize more about my why. I realized that its less about the -- what I am doing -- whether shooting a wedding, a baseball game, or employees at a factory, its more about exploring the people who surround me. People inspire me and allow me to discover my why. I love meeting people and hearing why they do what they do.

I think it is so important not just in my business life but also in my personal life to constantly be reading and learning so that I can push myself to be a better business owner, partner and person.
