/////PREBEN&NICOLE * SDE//////////////////from past to present
Monday, August 3, 2009 at 12:57PM Tweet Love. Life. Laughter. Friends. Family.
A couple months before the wedding Preben had approached us with some CDs that had hundreds of vintage photos of Roche Harbon on them from the early 1920's. We had seen photos similar to these awhile back from a wedding we did at the Rosario resort on Orcas Island. What I noticed about photos at resorts like these, was that many of the same things in those vintage photos, could still be seen (in almost the same condition) as they were nearly 80 years ago. The idea of being able to stand in the exact place and look at nearly the exact same buildings, views, and scenery that people saw in the distant past was an incredibly awesome feeling.
From meetings with Preben and Nicole, and hearing about their plans for the wedding, we knew that they had deep connection with their friends, family and their lineage throughout their lives. Nicole and Preben have a moving and definitive willingness to share everything with everyone around them. From fishing stories and boat rides to good laughs, hugs and smiles. There is a warm feeling from just being with them and their family. They have a unique and powerful energy when they are together that inspires and draws people into being a part of their lives. The wedding day was more the pinnacle of a week long celebration at Roche Harbor, where Preben and Nicole invited all of their closest friends and family. The sheer size of their wedding (100+ people) shows that they share this close-ness with so many people! We knew that this was not your "typical" wedding where the film is mainly about the couple, but instead we wanted to make a film that was about everyone traveling and coming together for this special week long celebration.
Danielle and I rode the Anacortes to Friday harbor ferry up LATE Thursday night (got in at 2 am) so that we could have a day to scope out the location and go to the rehearsal on Friday. From the moment we got there we knew that we would have an awesome time. Even arriving in the dead of night, when everything was pitch black (no moon out that night) the security guard at the resort happily helped us into the lobby, gave me the key and checked us in. The next morning we woke up to the bright sun pouring from a window and the smell of ocean air trickling in from the breeze. There were the chirps of seagulls outside and the sounds of the docks creaking as the boats rocked in the water. When we headed down to breakfast we could feel that there was so much buzz and excitement about the wedding on Saturday and we couldnt wait to be a part of it.
When were filming before the wedding, I noticed that they had a printed up family tree on a foam core board in one of the rooms at the resort and this sparked the idea that it would be cool to build the concept of the film with the theme of bringing the past to the present, and how sometimes old weathered things can become new; reviving histories, stories, and memories from the past. I worked in the vintage photos with a little bit of after-effects and film-flare effects.
By the time the wedding weekend was over, we felt as if we were all part of their family as well. Danielle and I felt incredibly humbled, honored, and excited to have been able to chat with their friends and family and hear the response from everyone about the SDE.
Furthermore, I wanted to thank Travis & Jessie from True Colors who coordinated this awesome event!! They did an amazing job!

I absolutely LOVE your work...beautiful, timeless, perfect. WHEN I get married...I want you guys there! ;) As a photographer, capturing moments are priceless to me...and I love how you do it.
Love Roche Harbor too...one of my favorite places! thanks for sharing!
Casey & Danielle: This is another example of consistently amazing work from you guys. I think everyone should start the day watching one of these. I love the Alexi Murdoch with this one...great song choice. I can't say enough about how unbelievable talented you guys are...as most hip-hop artists of the past and present would say, "nuff respect y'all." Okay, now I'm going to post a link to this on Twitter...I feel like I'd be slighting my followers if I didn't pass the word. WORD! -Jason

Love the Past to Present concept. Awesome clip - looking forward to seeing more of your stuff Casey :)
I was the Roche Harbor lead on this wedding…On Saturday and Sunday and Monday, the wedding was the talk of the resort, on everyone’s lips. Then, when we got the SDE link on Tuesday, the video became the talk of the resort. We think it’s the best video ever shot on our grounds.
Thanks to the outstanding team members who created such a spectacular weekend!

First off, great work. Clip cadence, color, composition, and transitions are all to be marveled. Quick question...In the sequences where you and/or your crew used the Stedicam Flyer, are you wearing the vest as well? Or since the Canon 5D is so light weight (compared to larger video cameras) is it not required for walking/trailing shots? OR does the vest not detach from the Stedicam at all? Thank you for your insight.
